leader Wangari Maathai dies
Kenyan environmentalist Wangari Maathai,
a founder of the Green Belt movement that pioneered the planting of trees in Africa
and a winner of the Nobel
Peace Prize, died Sunday, September 25, 2011, of cancer at the age of 71.
Her movement led to the planting of an estimated 45 million trees.
